Menter Aberystwyth is a regeneration partnership for Aberystwyth and its surrounding area. The group is relatively new and is one of seven in the county of Ceredigion, which receive money from the Welsh Development Agency to implement community regeneration in their respective areas. Community Regeneration builds on the ethos of community and simply means that the people living in a defined area take direct actions to address issues affecting their community rather than have solutions imposed upon them.
Menter Aberystwyth has evolved from initial discussions with a small group of partners who shared a commitment to improve things in the town. In March 2004 Menter Aberystwyth was officially established and it was registered as a Company Limited by Guarantee.
This means that the running and finances of Menter Aberystwyth are completely transparent, with annual accounts submitted to Companies House. There are currently 12 Board Members, who are involved on an entirely voluntary basis, and who each have a commitment in developing and promoting Aberystwyth.
